This ain't your average 7-11. Bringing a little boutique flair to its tucked-away location in Darlinghurst, Darlo General takes the idea of a corner shop all the way back to when they were little slices of the neighbouring streets as opposed to the convenient cornucopia of pre-packaged snacks and fluorescent lighters.
Committed to supporting local makers and growers, Darlo General is brewing fresh Allpress coffee, and is stocked with small-batch goodies like sourdough from Pioik Bakery, creamy butter from Pepe Saya and nutty, vegan spreads by Brother Mountain Macadamias. You'll also find homewares from Newport woodworker Reuben Bloom, local brand Etienne Home and kitchen supplies from Melbourne’s Barkly Basics.
Interior deisgner and store owner Mia Cipolla came to the space with the Darlo neighbourhood in mind: on her cards for 2021 is to institute a Darlo General Book Club, as well as allow the space to play host to other community events and meetups. Want to take the pressure out of making a packed lucnh for the kids? There's an online tuckshop service, where you can order in advance and pick up nutritious, simple school lunches on your way in the morning.
