Help-yourself deli counters are the thing here, and there are tonnes of choices for vegetarians, vegans and celiacs, so eating well has never been easier.
Founded 20 years ago in Rozelle, About Life has gained renown over the past few years thanks to a prolific opening schedule that now sees outlets from Bondi Junction to Lane Cove. And it's a smash hit – when we visit there are tradies seated beside yummy mummies and suited worker-bees next to hungry teenagers. Everyone, it seems, wants to eat clean. You might get a bit overwhelmed when you're packing your lunch here; that's to be expected, as there is a lot of choice. So here are a few things we rank at the top: the macadamia chicken curry is well made and full of tender meat and crunchy macadamias. Get it with the turmeric quinoa and lunch is done. The nachos counter also deserves a mention: you can top them how you like – we're all for the cocoa beef chilli with sweet potato béchamel (made with coconut milk, no less) or mix it up with the tahini miso sauce (trust us), and a heap of salad on top.
You can grab a fresh green coconut while you're there and have it cracked for you behind the counter. Plus you can also buy your ethical cleaning products while you're out eating lunch – how handy is that?
