Suki, a modern Asian restaurant by the Merci Group, has opened in the two-storey former home of Rosa Mexican on Barrenjoey Road in Mona Vale. Named after the owner’s daughter, Suki is an ideal spot for a fresh and flavour-packed lunch or dinner after hitting the waves.
Start with a Pear Sake Spritz, blending sake, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, pear, cinnamon and lemon soda. Or, for a nostalgic kick with a twist, try the Midori Melon Highball, featuring Midori, sake, melon, wasabi and Calpi.
The menu draws inspiration from across Asia – China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and beyond – and includes snacks, small plates, curries, larger dishes, sides and desserts. You could begin with kingfish ceviche, brightened by green chilli, lime, apple and green mango, and juicy scallops paired with a red curry sauce and curry leaves fried until crisp in butter.
Crunchy spring rolls with a tangy nuoc cham would be hard to go past, as would the duck pancakes with the usual suspects: hoisin, cucumber and spring onions. A prawn, mango and cashew salad would bring freshness and sweetness, and we reckon would pair nicely with a rich and fragrant short-rib rendang.
On Saturday lunch, Suki goes bottomless. Enjoy two hours of free-flowing drinks paired with Suki hits for $99 per person. Love yum cha with the family? Come to Suki on Sundays, 1-4pm, for yum cha and feast on juicy dumplings doused in soy sauce and chilli, golden prawn toast with spicy Kewpie mayo, pulled pork san choy bow, a mango crème brûlée custard tart and more for $59 per person.
The smart dining room features natural materials, including sandstone and stone, as well as sand-coloured couches. The rainforest-green design and slick branding were done by One and One, a Sydney-based design studio.
Swing on down to Suki on Sydney's Northern Beaches and get around it.
