The floor tiles are the exact same shade of mint-green as both the coffee cups and that nourishing kale smoothie served in a jar. Green, of course, is the philosophy here at Saluna, a café where they grow their own herbs, recycle everything, and offer a seasonal menu to go with the single-origin coffee they make every which way from cold filtered to syphon. The décor is a cheerful mix of light woods, concrete and pegboard; repurposed wooden wire spools serve as coffee tables; and each one has a different retro ’60s sugar bowl sitting on it. Food options include a brekkie burrito, Southestern style fried chicken with lime slaw, and a veggo ‘bagel bomb’ sandwiching a roasted Portobello mushroom and goats cheese. The tattooed, hipsterbilly waitress that served Time Out would not have been out of place on Crown Street in Surry Hills; nor would this entire joint, come to think of it. Grab a jar of house-made relish on your way out.
