Quick Brown Fox adds a breath of fresh air to the Pyrmont café scene. Housed in a handsome heritage corner building, the all-day diner boasts a creative menu created by consultant chef Tomislav Martinovic and sibling co-owners Ben and Emily Calabro.
Martinovic clocked time at Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck, so dishes here push the breakfast boundaries a little. Avo toast gets amped up with chilli labneh and salsa verde, Ottoman eggs are baked with a rich beef ragu, and Thoroughbread’s fruit loaf stars in a French toast that features toasted walnuts, cardamom, mandarin and caramel ice cream. The koshihikari rice congee might just be the pick of the bunch though, stacked with enoki mushrooms, maple-glazed bacon and grilled cabbage. Add blue swimmer crab or quinoa fried chicken to the mix for extra adventure.
Come lunch time, sophisticated salads loaded with colour and texture come out to play, as does that quinoa fried chicken in burger form with bacon and chilli relish on a brioche bun. Whatever isn’t made in-house is sourced locally – focaccia from nearby Pioik bakery and gluten-free bread from Nonie’s in Botany, for instance. So, too, is the coffee and tea, which come from Single O and Tea Craft, respectively.
