We all know Sydneysiders love to brunch, and the folks behind this Crows Nest café and restaurant know it too. Monte Alto has recently relaunched their menu and are now dishing out an entire breakfast menu where everything is less than $10. If you head in on weekdays before 9am you can order up breakfast favourites for half the price you'd usually pay – like the Monte Alto Benedict with poached eggs, cherry tomatoes, miso mushroom with apple cider hollandaise sauce served on a charcoal milk bun; or the chorizo baked eggs with tomato sugo and sauteed spinach.
In the evening things switch over into wine and whiskey mode, with snacks including a 'yum cha' scotch egg with (a panko crumbed xiu mai egg with asparagus and dill mayonnaise), wagyu meatballs and salmon crostini. Mains are centred around slow braised meats including chicken Maryland with South East Asian herb stuffing, streaky bacon and Marsala sauce; Vietnamese slow braised beef brisket stew; and coffee rubbed coffee rubbed pork roast. The wine and whiskey list has been designed with these big plates in mind, so you find full bodied reds and plenty of barrel aged whiskies.
