Is Glebe the next Surry Hills? If the evidence to hand has anything to say about it, the answer is yes. There's Wedge Espresso across the road from the school, two small bars just opened (Mr Falcon's and the Little Guy, both on GPR) as well as the already opened slouch zone 99 Bar. The cherry on the cake is this new café, up by the Little Bottle Shop in Glebe. It’s the simple things here that make the place: pastries from Black Star, Victoire bread for the toast and sangas, and coffee from Melbourne star baristas, St Ali. It’s a simple layout, too: old cinema chairs lining the walls, block-mounted posters of magicians from the 20s and 30s. And friendly service, too. The menu is classic café with a twist: massive club sandwiches are met with triple decker chocolate toasties - your basic dessert breakfast of a three layer Nutella sandwich. Phwoar. Or maybe you’d prefer a ginger ninja with your coffee - it’s a little gingerbread man wearing a chocolate ninja costume from the folks at Black Star. The little café has been open for just over a month, serving the opposite end of Glebe Point Road, which means no matter which end of street you’re on, it can only be counted as a win.
