For fifteen years the Little Devil Cakes and Bakery shop on Broadway was an Inner West institution for banh mi. Their Vietnamese pork roll was excellent, starring mayo, pâté, coriander, pickled carrot and various pork luncheon meats coming together in one crunchy white roll for your chewing pleasure. They also assembled the heck out of a chicken roll – the secret was in the hot shredded chicken meat and the super-charged fresh red chilli that they'd add to the mix upon request. Inner city uni students, past and present were devastated when they closed. But it's time ot turn that frown upside down, sandwich fans, because the Little Devil is alive and well, slinging those light and fluffy torpedo rolls in Dulwich Hill.
Director Rebecca Ni said that the move was a result of the constant increases in rent at the original location, and Broadway's loss is the deeper west's gain. In fact, Dulwich Hill is having a bit of a moment, with several ace cafés and Sydney's most authentic Mexican food located just around the corner from the new bakery.
