At Gyusha, carnivores get the best of both worlds: a retail outlet boasting Wagyu beef from a family farm an hour northeast of Dubbo and a yakiniku restaurant that allows you to grill them yourself. There’s table service if you wish, but half the fun is browsing the shelves – also packed with ribs, sausages, vegetables and crab legs among other delicacies – before getting down to business. Connoisseurs will want to sample cuts from other Australian producers for comparison’s sake, and high-rollers might want to give imported Japanese Wagyu a whirl.
In addition to the beef, there’s an extensive menu of Japanese curries, donburi, shabu shabu, katsu sangas, sushi and sashimi to round things out, as well as a comprehensive drinks list touting sake and whisky. And if you really want to level up the party, the private room holds 20 punters and has a karaoke system installed so you can belt it out after dinner.
