There’s only one name you need to know in the charcoal chicken world and it’s Frango. This iconic chicken chain is giving chicken fans even more reason to cross the road with the opening of its ninth location in Marrickville Metro on October 4.
Frango, meaning chicken in Portuguese, has built a cult following since its establishment in Sydney’s Inner West in 1989. That’s largely thanks to the Fernandes family’s top-secret chilli sauce that’s generously dolloped on their fiery burgers, gourmet ciabattas and shoestring fries. You’ll even find regulars eating it by the spoonful alongside their famed Portuguese charcoal chicken.
Frango’s menu goes far beyond the typical offerings of other chicken shops. Each chook is marinated with a magical blend of Portuguese spices (don't ask, it's top secret), then barbecued over 100 per cent natural hot coals and served up by the quarter, half or whole. If you’ve got a family to feed, they offer value meals that are complete with seasoned fries, fragrant tomato or white rice, fresh flatbread, gourmet salads (like tabouli, coleslaw, or potato) and even dessert (think chocolate mouse and crème caramel).
Lines also snake down the street for Frango’s original burger with succulent chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, tomato and their unforgettable combo of chilli and mayo. The Hot Lover is another favourite featuring chicken chilli pastrami, as is the recently introduced King Freddie featuring golden crispy fried chicken on a potato bun with Frito sauce.
