Clear your schedule and head to Delisia, an Italian-inspired sandwich bar and café that opened in early 2024 in a sage-green terrace in leafy Forest Lodge. They specialise in deli-style sandwiches, made fresh in front of you with focaccia baked that day, as well as Italian cured meats, cheese, and quality produce. The focaccia is bang on: soft, fluffy, slightly chewy, with a golden crust. Plus, everything is around $20 or under.
There are 15 sandwiches to choose from – give or take a special or two (hello, Reuben). One of the most popular is the Figaro, filled with burrata, prosciutto, fig, honey and rocket. We opted for the Bellini, loaded with creamy burrata, soft prosciutto, paper-thin slices of pear, fresh rocket, salty parmesan and a drizzle of sweet honey. In terms of sandwiches, it was a home run. We also tried the Alessandro, featuring salami, mortadella, and leg ham, as well as provolone cheese, basil pesto, rocket and olive oil.
One sandwich is big enough to share, but they’re so delicious that you’ll likely want to finish it all yourself. There’s also gluten-free bread and a vegan panini option available. Enjoy your sambos in the sunshine at one of the handful of tables outside, or grab it to go and head to a nearby park.
Coffee beans are sourced from Three Pence Roasters in Caringbah, but if you’ve already hit your caffeine quota for the day, go for a thirst-quenching fruity Italian soft drink. Our tip? Come early – lunchtime gets super busy, but around 10am is the sweet spot. Who says you can’t have a sandwich for breakfast?
