With its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Sydney Harbour, large verandah and waterfront surroundings, it’s no surprise the Deckhouse Woolwich is frequently booked for wedding receptions. However, they also serve breakfast and lunch to the public seven days a week, plating up elevated café staples and modern Australian mains that make the kitchen just as much of a drawcard as the setting. Avocado toast here comes with goat’s curd, charred broccolini, enoki, mint and almond on soy and linseed bread, while the classic eggs benny is updated with prosciutto, beetroot rosti, spinach, hollandaise and shichimi pepper. For lunch, they’re highlighting seafood with dishes such as Atlantic salmon with carrot purée, Warrigal greens, freekeh, caramelised yoghurt and crisp kale, and grilled prawns with sesame miso, cauliflower, burnt butter, beach banana and lemon myrtle. To accompany your meal, there’s a comprehensive wine list comprising red, whites, rosés and sparkling from mostly Antipodean producers, with many available by the glass.
