Nahji Chu, aka Miss Chu, is setting out on her next venture, a dumpling house with a focus on gluten free yum cha favourites called Cha Li Boi. Breathing new life into the old Yum Cha venue above the East Leagues Club, Cha Li Boi will be fronted by former Billy Kwong chef John Leong, who is shaking up you standard dumpling order.
They'll be filling dumplings with sustainable seafood and native ingredients, which are set to have some fun names and kooky shapes – think fish-shaped and crab claw stuffed hot pockets. They'll also be doing steamed baos and sliders, including the Man Bun, which is a vegan slider with tempura okra, shiitake mushrooms and tofu.
