Poke joints have well and truly taken off in Sydney, but now Manly has got one started by a shaka throwin’ Hawaiian local. Literally meaning 'to cut' poke takes, fresh, raw fish and dices it up, dresses it and then serves it with fresh veggies and crunchy toppings. Aloha Mate is doing just that with a big island inspired edge. Co-owner China West is taking a traditional approach to poke bowls by focusing on the fish's marinade and sauces. Using ingredients imported from Hawaii plus family recipes for the marinaded fish salad, West is looking to deliver a more authentic poke bowl. The venture is also backed by the crew behind Manly’s long standing Belgrave Cartel. To complement the island inspired menu you will also find smoothies, acai bowls and fresh juices.
