Believe it or not, 2024 is very nearly over. And as the year reaches its end, it’s not only Spotify that’s sharing its year in review. The property website Domain’s End of Year Wrap 2024 has just dropped, revealing the most sought-after suburbs across the city in the past 12 months – as well as the search terms that Sydneysiders have been prioritising in their house hunts. From a sweet village-like suburb in the Inner West to a ritzy harbourside spot, these are Sydney’s hottest suburbs for 2024.

Let’s start with suburbs. The small, village-like suburb of Stanmore in the Inner West took out the top spot for the most views on Domain.com in 2024. This leafy Inner West 'burb took the crown for the most-viewed suburb in the whole of Australia, beating Melbourne’s Albert Park and Adelaide’s Glenelg South to the top position on the podium. Despite being so close to the city, Stanmore maintains a laid-back, "small country town" vibe, with wide, tree-lined streets home to spacious, Federation-style homes. Local property agent Nicole Gerber of Gerber Properties says, “Everybody knows everybody in Stanmore. The people have been there for a long time. There are only a few different shops and businesses, and everybody’s been there for 30-odd years.”

Next on the list of Sydney’s most popular suburbs in 2024 was Paddington, the historic suburb on the intersection of the inner city and the Eastern Suburbs. We have a feeling Paddington’s exceptional line-up of restaurants and bars has something to do with its popularity, as well as its charming terrace houses and convenient location.

Haberfield (the Inner West suburb that’s home to one of Sydney’s best and most-appropriately-named cafés, Happyfield) ranked number three, and McMahons Point on Sydney’s North Shore ranked in fourth place.

  2. Paddington
  3. Haberfield
  4. McMahons Point
  5. Lilyfield
  6. Birchgrove
  7. Enmore
  8. Point Piper
  9. Balmain
  10. Marrickville

In terms of what Sydneysiders are looking for from their next home, the most-searched term for Sydney homes on Domain was “pool”, with searches for properties featuring a “granny flat” on the rise over the past 12 months, and searches for homes with a “study” dropping – which could reflect our return to the office after the pandemic-induced WFH era.

The report also shared its predictions for house and unit prices for the year ahead, estimating that Sydneysiders will see a four to six per cent increase in both house and unit prices. Not ideal, considering Sydney’s housing market is already the second-most expensive in the world).
