Think the City2Surf is a piece of cake? A new, decidedly more challenging event is coming to the Harbour City – the world’s only ultramarathon to traverse a major global city taking place right here in Sydney, and this year, more than 2,500 runners are set to take part.

The third annual Bondi to Manly Ultra is a gruelling 80km event set against the Emerald City’s stunning harbour. Starting at Bondi, the route takes in some of Sydney’s most spectacular views – leading runners along the dramatic cliff tops of Watsons Bay, wrapping around the foreshore, passing by Australia’s most famous landmark before finishing up on the sparkly shores of Manly Beach.

After first launching in Sydney in 2022, the Bondi to Manly Ultra is popping up again on Saturday, October 26 for its third year running (ahem). Though there are a number of ultra-marathon events around the world, the Bondi to Manly Ultra is the only one set in an urban environment.

This year, runners from around the world are set to compete – with 133 run clubs committed to either the full 80km route or the relay option, which sees the run split into four 20km legs, completed by teams of four. According to the Bondi to Manly team (the people responsible for the proposed city-spanning walking track as well as the race itself), 650 runners have already registered for the full 80km run, with an anticipated 1,800 people set to take part in the relay.

As a not-for-profit event, all proceeds are donated to Bondi to Manly Walk Supporters and reinvested into protecting, preserving and enhancing the Bondi to Manly walking track.

Keen to get involved? As of today (Thursday, July 4) there are fewer than 100 spaces left – you can register over here.
