There are a few events that reliably punctuate Sydney's annual calendar, and bring a uniting kind of energy to the city every year. The City2Surf – the 55-year-old fun run that takes over Sydney for one Sunday every August – is one of them. The annual event sees runners of all abilities take on a 14-kilometre race through the city, winding up on the world-famous shores of Bondi Beach for what inevitably unfolds into a gloriously sweaty pub crawl. If you’re keen to get involved, we’re here to help – with registration for the 2025 event opening tomorrow.
When is City2Surf 2025?
This year’s race will take place on Sunday, August 10, 2025, with runners leaving the starting line at staggered intervals between 7.35am and 9.55am.
Where does the City2Surf go?
The fun run takes athletes (and non-athletes, no slow-shaming here) on a 14-kilometre route through the city’s east: starting in Hyde Park in Sydney’s CBD, then running along William Street through Kings Cross, along New South Head Road through Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay and Rose Bay, up the infamous ‘Heartbreak Hill’ (a two-kilometre incline into Vaucluse), along Old South Head Road past Dover Heights, then along Military Road and Campbell Parade to the finish line in Bondi Beach.
When do City2Surf 2025 registration open?
Entries for the 2025 City2Surf open tomorrow, at 11am AEDT on Wednesday, March 26.
How to register for City2Surf 2025
Registrations for the fun run are submitted online via the City2Surf website. This year, the organisers have launched a new registration platform, so you'll need to create a fresh City2Surf profile, even if you’ve run the race before. Once you’ve created your account, log in and click register anytime from 11am on Wednesday, March 26. With an estimated 90,000 runners registering for this year’s event following last year’s record-breaking year, you can expect the website to be slow. If the registration page gets too busy, you’ll be added to a queue and then will have ten minutes to claim your spot once you’re loaded onto the page (if you have the queue open in a different tab, you’ll want to keep checking in). The registration process will also ask you to choose a start group based on your ability, so have a think about how much training you’re planning on putting in between now and then.
How much does it cost to run the City2Surf?
The early bird entry fee to run the City2Surf is $95 for adults, but typically runners use the opportunity as a fundraising event and raise money for a good cause. You can learn more about fundraising for the City2Surf, and other details about the world’s largest fun run, over here.
