The Grounds Group's motto may as well be "go big or go home" because when they open a venue, it's inevitably a huge deal. Their original Alexandria café boasted a roastery, bakery, kitchen garden complete with farm animals, and a bar and has just shy of 30,000 Insta posts dedicated to its aesthetic appeal. For venue two, they opened a giant, vintage-styled coffee house that could have been ripped from the pages of a modern European history book. The Grounds of the City is still one of the most beautiful locations for a CBD brunch ad attracts queues most days.
News has just dropped that there's a third venue in the works, and they're going even bigger with the Grounds Roastery. They're taking over 814m² inside the Locomotive Workshop at South Eveleigh (you might know it as Australian Technology Park). Inside, they're building a dedicated coffee roastery that will also act as a dining hub for this burgeoning pocket of the inner south.
Right now the plans involve espresso and brew bars, coffee labs, and workshop spaces for barista training. There will be food, of course, but the coffee business is the beating heart of the new operation, which is due to open to the public in 2020.
Prepare for the social media onslaught once the doors open.
