Lottie – the Mexican-inspired restaurant set to open this month on the rooftop of the stunning new Eve hotel – might be a one-of-a-kind venue, but its name is reflective of a wider trend. This weekend, the most-popular baby names in NSW in 2024 were revealed, and Charlotte came in at number one for female babies. If we had to put money on it, we’d bet that it’s only a matter of time until some Sydney hospo gun opens a natural wine bar named Noah – and we’re in full support.
The NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages just revealed the top baby names for 2024, with Noah and Charlotte taking the top spots. The report revealed the top ten baby names by gender for the year, and old-fashioned names reigned supreme – with 383 of the 78,400 recorded babies born in the state in 2024 being named Charlotte, and 496 Noah.

The favourite girls name of 2023, Isla, dropped to fifth place, with Amelia and Olivia taking second and third place respectively on the top ten list of girls names for the year. Last year’s favourite boys name, Oliver, dropped to third place, with Theodore beating it to the second spot on the list.
The new entries on the top ten lists are Hazel (the eighth-most popular girls name in NSW for 2024, with 262 registered Hazels joining the state’s population) and Elijah (jumping from 16th place in 2023, with 285 registrations in 2024). For the first time since 2018, Harper has made it back onto the list of most popular girls names, and Chloes are also having a moment – re-entering the list of popular girls names with 265 new registrations.
