Thursday, November 21 update: Panic over! After last-minute talks, the strike has now been called off. Trains will run as usual. You can keep up-to-date with rolling updates via the Transport for NSW website.
Sydney’s looming train strikes have been changing shape over the past week or so, as the government and the Rail and Tram Bus Union (RTBU) attempt to come to an agreement. At the time of writing (morning of Thursday, November 21), it looks like the strike will run for two whole days, with train drivers going on strike from 4.15am on Friday, November 22, and remaining off duty until the morning of Sunday, November 24.
Will Sydney trains run tomorrow?
At this point, trains will not be running across Sydney tomorrow. The strike is set to begin tomorrow (Friday, November 22) at 4.15am and will continue until mid-morning on Sunday, November 24. Buses and trams will run as normal.
Does the Sydney train strike affect Sydney Metro?
Sydney Metro is set to continue running services as normal – you can learn more about Sydney Metro’s recently extended operating hours here. However, on Saturday and Sunday, planned maintenance on the new stretch of Sydney Metro City line will mean metro services will only run between Tallawong and Chatswood.
Sydney train strike replacement services
With the trains on strike, Sydney’s other public transport options – buses, ferries, metro and light rail – are set to be overloaded, so Transport for NSW is considering introducing rail replacement bus services. Details are yet to be released, so your best option is to keep an eye on Trip Planner from Transport for NSW to plan your journey.
You can learn more about the RTBU's current industrial action via their website, and you can stay up to date and plan your trip over here.
