Summer has officially arrived in Sydney, and in excellent news for the people of the city’s west, Penrith Beach is coming back – with this coming Saturday (December 7) confirmed as the opening date for “Pondi”’s 2025 season. In its first season open to the public (which ran from December 19, 2023 until April 25, 2024), the urban beach welcomed 215,000 visitors – people who would likely have otherwise had to travel for more than an hour to make it to one of Sydney’s coastal beaches (or a slightly shorter journey to the new Lake Parramatta).

This season, Penrith Beach will be back in a big way – with upgraded facilities and a program of pop-up events. A $2.5 million fund will support amenities and staffing, with the beach set to be open to the public daily from 10am until 7pm from Saturday, December 7 until Sunday, April 27 2025.

To keep Sydneysiders safe at the beach, lifeguards from Surf Life Saving Australia will be on duty, and the Royal Life Saving Society will lead community education and learn-to-swim opportunities. As with any swimming spot, safety is essential, and you should never swim unless you’re confident in the water, regardless of whether there are lifeguards present.

As an extra bonus this year: beachgoers won’t need to book parking – with more than 300 parking spaces available this year.
