The world premiere season of Muriel's Wedding the Musical has been completely sold out for the last month, and it's been near-impossible to get a decent ticket since it opened to rave reviews in November.

But we've got some news that'll make your life as good as an ABBA song: the show will return to Sydney in July 2019.

It's also moving to a bigger space, from the 900-seat capacity Roslyn Packer Theatre to the 2,000-seat Sydney Lyric, meaning more of Sydney will be able to see this musical which is, in part, a love letter to the city.

We wrote in our five-star review: "With an updated book by original screenwriter PJ Hogan and music by pop intelligentsia Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall, Muriel’s Wedding the Musical will leave you smiling for days."

There are no details about whether the return Sydney season will be part of an Australian tour, but we've heard whispers that there might be seasons in other cities early next year.

Producer Global Creatures also hasn't announced any casting for the return season, but the creative team will be the same: Simon Phillips returns as director and Gabriella Tylesova's eye-popping designs will be back on stage.

July 2019 is still a long way off, but tickets go on sale in less than a month, on Wednesday, February 20. You can sign up to a waitlist for tickets at murielsweddingthemusical.com.

If you can't wait until next year, the original cast recording of the musical is now available to buy online and in stores. It also debuted at number 17 on the ARIA album charts last week and number 6 on the digital charts; a pretty strong effort for the cast recording of an original Australian musical. But be warned – the songs are seriously addictive, particularly the wild, hedonistic, pop-tastic 'Sydney'.
