Experience an enchanting winter evening filled with spellbinding melodies and storytelling at Willoughby Symphony Orchestra’s Fantastique. This is the perfect excuse to dust off your best frocks and suits for a memorable night out on the town, with two exclusive performances at the Concourse Concert Hall in Chatswood on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30,
Fantastique is a collaborative masterpiece between Dr Nicholas Milton AM, chief conductor and artistic director of Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and Rosa Donata Milton, one of Germany’s most exceptional violin soloists, concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jena and lecturer at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar.
Backed by the exceptional musicians of Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, this virtuoso showpiece will take audiences on a magical musical journey starting with Austrian-American composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35. Korngold wrote this piece in 1945, drawing on the exquisite melodies and rousing themes of his music for Hollywood swashbucklers starring Errol Flynn.
Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique Op. 14 will then take centre stage with its vivid portrayal of the French composer’s turbulent infatuation with a beloved. You’ll journey through the highs and lows in his musical self-portrait through five movements, starting with a love story and descending into the horror of a witches’ sabbath.
Fantastique is produced in partnership with Willoughby City Council, as part of the 2023 Willoughby Symphony Orchestra subscription concert series. Tickets are $57 for adults, $52 for concessions, $26 for youth (16-26 years) and $15.30 for children under 16.
