Time Out says

Wollongong’s indie pop quartet Pirra is bringing its danceable bops and seductive energy to the Riverside Theatres on Saturday June 17. Shake and shimmy down to the theatre for a showcase of instrumentation, electronic synthetics and silken melodies, with tickets starting at just $25.

Pirra, meaning 'moon" in the Luritja language, is fronted by the talented Luritja woman and singer-songwriter Jess Beck, who hails from Boandik land. Accompanying her on stage is guitarist James McKendry and twin brothers Curtis and Jeffrey Argent on bass and drums.

The band has been making waves since they signed with UK label Cr2 Records alternative label imprint Blk&Wht Rcrds in 2019 and has since worked with leading producers including Konstantin Kersting (Tones & I), Roy Kerr (London Grammar) and most recently, Sam Littlemore (Pnau). Pirra’s highly acclaimed 2021 release with Littlemore ‘Never Apart’ became the band’s first number-one hit on the AMRAP charts and saw them named as Triple J Unearthed’s feature artist throughout NAIDOC Week.

The quartet's setlist at Riverside Theatres will feature fan favourites from their dreamy, upbeat pop debut album Animal Kingdom (2017) and their hypnotic second album Spirals (2022) including ‘Under the Skyline’, ‘Limousine Lines’ and ‘Never Apart’.

This concert is part of the City of Parramatta’s Warami Music Festival, which celebrates the suburb's First Nations cultures. It’s also part of Riverside Theatres’ Repeat the Beat music program with other upcoming performances by Heartland, Ephemera Trio, the Surge and the Metropolitan Orchestra.

Pirra is performing for one night only, so mark your calendars and get your tickets here.
