The list of Khalid’s musical accolades is becoming outrageously long for an artist who’s only just reached the legal drinking age in his home town of El Paso. His amalgamation of R’n’B and indie-pop tracks have begun to fill his mantlepiece with five Grammy Award nominations, the 2018 MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, numerous multi-platinum singles and major co-signs from music lords like Elton John and Kendrick Lamar.
And now Australia gets to experience Khalid’s musical mastery when he tours the country and New Zealand at the end of 2019. The Sydney show will be the big finale for his Free Spirit tour on December 4, where he’ll share his new album of the same name plus favourites from his debut album American Teen.
You’ll be hearing bass-heavy showstopers like ‘Young Dumb & Broke’ and ‘Better’ beside his new Free Spirit releases like ‘Talk’, which was co-written with Disclosure, and the guitar riffy ‘My Bad’.
Tickets for his 2017 shows in Aus were snapped up like hotcakes, so even if you are young, dumb and broke, save your dollars and prepare those booking fingers for the first presale release on April 11 and general tix on April 17.
