Does seeing the London Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Ballet, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs or Australian Chamber Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House for $10 sound like a good deal? If you ask us, it couldn’t be better!
Well, that’s exactly what Sydney Opera House is offering with Inside/Out at the House. This program is the jewel in the crown of the venue’s 50th anniversary celebrations and it has an unusual twist: concertgoers can choose whether they watch the performances inside the Concert Hall or Joan Sutherland Theatre, or watch the live broadcast on the big screen on the Forecourt. Indoor tickets start from $20 with a booking fee. However, those looking for a more relaxed or budget-friendly option can nab a ticket on the Forecourt for just $10 – with transport included in your ticket!
Here’s a rundown of the program. On Monday, May 1 the London Symphony Orchestra will perform music by John Adams, Debussy and Ravel. On Tuesday, May 2 they’ll be back with a rendition of Mahler’s Symphony No 7, before a final performance on Wednesday, May 3. That one will feature Bruckner’s Symphony No.7 and an Australian premiere by rising star composer Daniel Kidane.
The Australian Ballet will be the first of four resident companies to take the stage on Thursday, May 4, with a first-time performance of Balanchine’s abstract ballet Jewels. It’s Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s turn on Friday, May 5 as they take a walk back through time with historial pieces from 50 years in residence at Sydney Opera House.
Sydney Philharmonia Choirs will perform a night of Broadway hits on Saturday, May 6, before the Australian Chamber Orchestra closes out the season on Sunday, May 7 with special guests Jimmy Barnes and William Barton.
