In the second half of 2022, Opera Australia’s spiritual home, the Joan Sutherland Theatre, will be the scene of four classic operas by the two giants of the art, Puccini and Verdi.

There are three by Giuseppe Verdi: the tragic romance La Traviata, searing drama Il Trovatore and revelatory, rarely seen Attila. You can also thrill to Giacomo Puccini’s heartbreaking Madama Butterfly. These operas feature famous earworms, spectacular staging and some world famous divas and male singers in the lead roles.

Nothing quite lays on the glamour like a night at the opera: fantastic costumes, lavish staging, lush live orchestral music, and incredible singing. And really, can you honestly claim to be a Sydneysider if you haven’t seen an opera at the Opera House?

As always, the operas will be sung in Italian with English surtitles to help you follow the action.
