One of the biggest exhibitions of the last decade has landed at the Australian Museum – but only for a limited time. The country’s oldest museum is welcoming visitors to experience Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs with multi-sensory experiences and virtual reality tours daily until May 19.

Australia’s largest cultural exhibition in more than a decade is a tribute to none other than Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, who commanded Egypt for an impressive 67 years. You can peek into the life and times of the accomplished ruler by exploring 182 priceless Ancient Egyptian artefacts from more than 3,000 years.

The pièce de résistance is the actual coffin of Ramses the Great, which is one of the most spectacular royal coffins from Ancient Egypt ever to be discovered. Also included in the exhibition are ancient treasures and one-of-a-kind relics that have never before left Egypt, including animal mummies, magnificent jewellery and ornate golden treasures of the tomb.

For some extra museum fun, you’ll want to add on the Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs interactive virtual reality experience. You’ll travel back in time on this whirlwind tour of two of Ramses' most impressive monuments: the Tomb of Queen Nefertari, his favourite Royal Consort, and the temples of Abu Simbel. Strap yourself in as you fly through temples and sandstorms, and even come face-to-face with Ramses' mummy.

Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs is open at the Australian Museum every day until May 19, with evening sessions until 9pm. Tickets range from $25 for children to $38 for adults, and you can book yours here.
