You don’t have to wait until Christmas to experience the most magical time of the year, as the Jenolan Caves transform into a winter wonderland for Yulefest this August. The freshly renovated Mountain Lodge is joining the festivities with a special Yulefest weekend package, inclusive of welcome drinks, a five-course Christmas dinner, a tour of Australia’s oldest caves, and one night stay in their cosy lodges.
Hidden in the wilderness, the recently refurbished accommodation is a comfortable base to take in the awe and wonder of Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve. The lodge exudes all the charm of a European mountain ski chalet, featuring 30 spacious motel-style guest rooms with all the modern comforts including ensuite bathrooms, televisions and small kitchenettes.
You can soak up the romance of the season in a king room for two priced at $650, or book a magical family getaway for $899 with beds for two adults and two children. As part of the Yulefest package, you’ll also get to delight in an enchanting Christmas dinner, hosted every Friday night in August at the historic Chisholm’s Restaurant.
Your feast will start with a mixed plate of bruschetta and pickled onion with ham and cream cheese, followed by an entrée of lamb cutlets; soft shell crab; or vegetable and tomato soup. The main course embraces all the Christmas classics with your choice of traditional roast turkey and stuffing or honey-glazed ham, both served with roast potatoes and pumpkin, garlic baby carrots and steamed greens with gravy. Vegetarian guests are looked after too with stuffed eggplant complemented by spiced lentils and Cleopatra sauce. Save room for dessert including mini pavlovas and plum pudding, followed by a small plate of truffles and handmade chocolates to conclude your festive feast.
Jenolan Mountain Lodge is the perfect base for exploring Australia’s most spectacular caves and your Yulefest package includes an enchanting Chifley cave tour the following morning. Expert guides will lead you through expansive caverns, natural arches and narrow passages adorned with a multitude of fossils and glistening crystals. To add to the excitement, Santa will make a surprise appearance in the cave bearing special gifts for children under 16 years old.
Jenolan Caves really is a world of its own and there’s so much to do that you could easily be tempted to stay for a whole week.
