Westerns are back in a big way. And, after a promising debut at Cannes, this contemporary take on the genre is already garnering awards season buzz.
Set in West Texas, it follows the story of bank-heisting brothers Toby (Chris Pine, Star Trek) and Tanner (Ben Foster, Six Feet Under), desperately trying to save their family's land through a series of increasingly risky robberies. Directed by David MacKenzie, Time Out's film critic says: "This old-fashioned but enjoyable heist thriller rounds up all the creakiest cliches about America's largest state into one handy package, then adds a dash of 21st-century politics for good measure. You've seen it all before – but hell, it's worth seeing again." Hell or High Water is rated MA15+.
