Movies by the Boulevard is one of our favourite cheap family nights out, and this year the free outdoor cinema is joining forces with Sydney Hills Outdoor Cinema to bring the city Outdoor Cinema at Sydney Olympic Park. It’s a similar concept as in previous years, with free, family-friendly films screening at Cathy Freeman Park throughout January.
This year, there’ll be 12 evenings of free screenings, with 1,500 free tickets up for grabs each night. This season’s highlights include the live-action versions of Aladdin and Dumbo, the beloved Toy Story 4, and movies for biggers kids like Avengers: End Game, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Bumblebee.
Dinner and drinks are available from local food trucks and the fully licenced bar, and this year there’ll even be a fancy glamping option with feasts delivered directly to your schmick digs (for a fee, of course). Unlike many other outdoor cinemas, this reworked event allows attendees to take packed picnics as well as cushions, rugs or low chairs. The doors open each night at 6pm and the movies start at 8pm.
Even if you are keen for the no-dollars general admission tix, you’ll still need to register for a spot on the lawn.
