The Art Gallery’s Shadow Catchers exhibition is an investigation into the use of shadows, body doubles and mirrors in photographic and video art. In tandem with the exhibition is the gallery's latest series of free movies screening in the Domain Theatre.
Flim-Flam is given over to the cinema of fakes, cons, rip-offs, copies and frauds. Films range from beloved grifter films to stories of mistaken identity.
Highlights include Mikey and Nicky, a gangster film by the historically undervalued director Elaine May; gritty body-swap sci-fi flick Seconds; Fassbender’s strange film about lookalikes who don’t, Despair; the fake story of an African-American lesbian movie star, The Watermelon Woman; and an Iranian headfuck of a film about people auditioning to be in a movie, Salaam Cinema.
The Flim-Flam series was paused due to Covid but is now restarting. All screenings are free, but booking online is recommended. To find out what's screening when, scroll down.
