Graeme Murphy’s much anticipated version of The Happy Prince might be on hold for the time being, but that doesn’t mean you should give the ballet a miss altogether. As a replacement, the Australian Ballet presents their ever-popular production of Giselle, which has been part of the company’s repertoire since 1986. A classic Romantic ballet full of flowing white tutus and breathtakingly beautiful dancing, Giselle tells the story of a naive peasant girl who, after dying from a broken heart, is transformed into a spirit and must forgive her lover and save him from death. It also features the famous “white act”, often regarded as one of ballet’s most beautiful and recognisable scenes.
