It is with great sadness that we share the news of Leonard Cohen's death, aged 82.

The news was announced on his official Facebook page but a cause of death was not given.

Cohen is revered as a songwriter, musician, poet and novelist, exploring themes of politics, religion, love, mental health and sexuality in his words. His career spanned five decades and he was prolific in his output, penning universally loved songs such as 'Hallelujah' (later covered by Jeff Buckley), 'So Long, Marianne' and 'Suzanne'. to name only a few. Earlier this year, he released his 14th and final studio album, You Want It Darker, which was met with critical success.

In 1995, he was ordained as a Buddhist monk and in 2008, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His influence will continue long after his passing and he will be missed by millions.

Time Out will post the details of any Sydney memorials and tribute nights as they arise.
