While Thor and his pals were filming on the Gold Coast this year, some evil genius at the Gallery of Modern Art was cooking up this scheme for cultural domination: the blockbuster exhibition Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe.

Opening in May 2017 at QAGOMA, the exhibition will feature more that 300 original artworks, props, costumes and curios from the Marvel universe – including Thor’s hammer, Iron Man’s suit of armour and Captain America’s shield.

Drawing from the official Marvel archives and private collectors, the exhibition is designed to give an insight into how Marvel's superheroes and villains made it from page to screen – including Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Ant-Man, Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

QAGOMA will also run a Marvel Cinema showcase concurrently with the exhibition, so you can see all your favourites on the big screen.

QAGOMA Director Chris Saines CNZM says the exhibition will focus on “the creative artists who translate the drawn narrative to the screen through production design and storyboarding, costume and prop design, and special effects and postproduction.”

It should also tie in nicely with the Australian release of Thor: Ragnarok in October 2017.
