Half the fun of heading to some of the world's most exciting cities is the prospect of some next level drinking. And as predicted New York and London have taken out the majority of the top spots in this year's World's 50 Best Bars Awards, with the Big Apple's Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog taking out the gold medal.

But you needn't cross time zones to get world class cocktails because once again the World's 50 Best list includes three Australian bars: Sydney's Baxter Inn sits at number 12, Melbourne's Black Pearl at number 22, and Sydney's Bulletin Place rounds out the Aussie trifecta at 46 on the ranked list.

Maybe it's been a while since you hit these long-standing temples to quality hooch, in that case you should head down, order up a show-stopping cocktail and cheers to our nation's booze prowess.

Want to make a night of it? Check out more of Sydney's best bars here. Or if you're thirsty in the land of the three thousand postcode, you'll find Melbourne's best bars here.
