It's been a while since we've had a chance to bring you some good news surrounding late night trading in Sydney, but boy do we have some for you today. Some of your favourite bars have just been awarded extended trading hours, most notably cocktail caverns Lobo Plantation, which can now stay open until 1am, and Kittyhawk, which gained a 2am close for Friday and Saturday nights (with a midnight lockout).

Meanwhile Redfern's inclusive good times hub the Bearded Tit will also hopefully have its hours extended – an application has been lodged but due to a clerical error it's taking a little longer, so sit tight.

Freda's kicked off it's new extended hours last week after years of submissions to council and the state government. It'll see the venue extend its hours to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and midnight on Sunday. Those extra two hours means the venue will be able to squeeze in even more music, arts and cultural events – and anymore time devoted to seeing emerging artists at Down Under, dancing to a George Michael tribute band or getting down with Vibe Positive is time well spent.

Want more Sydney bars? Here's our guide to 50 of the best.
