Last year Melbourne got to luxuriate at a three-day festival dedicated to cheese, and this year it's Sydney's turn, with half a tonne of European fromage landing at Carriageworks for Bon Fromage. That's right, 500 kilograms of cheese will be yours for the eating. You will get to taste the last word in curds, with masterclasses, demonstrations, tastings and cheese to buy and take home with you. And did we mention that entry is free! Sample Europe's finest aged and fresh dairy, neck some fine wines at the bar, and book (free) tickets to classes on cheese and wine matching; the difference between creamy and stinky cheeses, and the history of European cheese.

They take their cheese very seriously over on the continent, so all this snacking is presented by the Centre National Interprofessionel de l’Economie Laitière (CNIEL), with the support of the European Union, and they're even bringing a French cheesemonger, Xavier Thuret, over from the region that brought us Brie, to share some local knowledge.

Bon Fromage is on at Carriageworks from Sat Oct 14 to Sun Oct 15. 11am-6pm. Entry is free.
