As the name suggests, Zigi’s has three specialties: art, wine and cheese. Upstairs is the gallery, which exhibits works from Australian artists in mediums of photography, oil painting, illustration and textiles. Downstairs is the restaurant-bar, pairing an international wine list with an even more impressive selection of cheeses. Whether you’re a washed rind kinda guy or a blue vein gal, you’re sure to find your favourite fromage flavours.
Head chef Zigi Ozeri also offers a tapas menu blending Israeli and modern Australian dishes for a more substantial meal after your wine and cheese course. Try the grilled kangaroo with interesting textural accompaniments of labne, beetroot chips and a refreshing rose jelly. Or order a big bucket of king prawns that’ll go perfectly with your zesty riesling. The kitchen is open till midnight for hungry night owls.
While the Ziggi's crew are passionate about their produce, a visit to this comfortable Chippendale bar won’t cost you the earth or require formal attire. If you can’t get enough of their honest love of wine and food, head to one of their tasting events, enroll in the cooking school for one-off classes, or complete courses in cheese making, dessert baking and other cooking skills.
