For every suit bar doling out Heinekens and sparkling in slick, polished steel surrounds there is a comfortably worn in old pub in the CBD to answer it. The Occidental is the latter. It dates back to 1850 when there wasn't much else around Wynyard Square except packed earth and new colony members looking for a drink. Now it has a public bar, bistro, a restaurant on the second floor and accomodation for $85 a night for a double room.
