Fat Angel is a new Surry Hills bar and diner on Elizabeth Street near Cleveland Street. Mediterranean flavours are the name of the game here along with classic and signature cocktails, imported beers and fine wines from Italy, Australia and NZ.
The fitout is in an open, modern rustic style. Grab a seat at the bar for something from the extensive cocktail list. You can get a Negroni here, a Mojito or a Long Island Iced Tea, or a signature concoction such as the Surry Hills Side – a summery, Caribbean mix of Sailor Jerry Spiced rum, coconut liqueur, lime and fresh pineapple juice.
The chef has crafted an easy-eating menu with a touch of South European and Middle Eastern. The popular Fat Angel Burger uses a fresh baked Turkish bread bun and is served with a fry basket of beer-battered chips. Pizze are kept to a simple three varieties: Margarita, prosciutto or seafood. The Mezze platter is only $20 and ideal for sharing over drinks: mixed olives, marinated feta, hummus, babaganoush, toasted Turkish bread, carrots and celery sticks (dips are freshly made on premises).
Fat Angel signature dishe is the Greek lamb skewers with tzadziki. The grilled seafood plate offers thyme and lemon octopus, paprika marinated calamari and garlic prawns.
The venue boasts its own label house wines: a Fat Angel Marlborough sauvignon blanc and a Fat Angel Swan Hills merlot. As a digestif, the bar offers the hard-to-find Carvo Caramel-infused vodka.
Fat Angel has a happy hour from 5-7pm with all tap beers and house wines $5 and all cocktails $10, pizza $12 and burgers $10.
