Mamasan – Surry Hills' own Japan meets Taiwan inspired bar and restaurant – now has its very own underground whisky bar and live music venue. The intimate drinks and jazz den takes cues from Tokyo drinking spots and NYC jazz clubs and has been dubbed Bad Mama’s Dungeon. They'll be shaking up cocktails drawn from the 33-page list, called The Mamasan Guide to Enlightened Drinking, that navigates modern takes on old school favourites, like the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned, which is a stirred down number with Hakushu whisky, cherry bitters and star anise. You'll also find a large selection of rare Japanese craft beer, wine, sake, shochu and a selection of Asian whisky and whiskey from around the world.
The sophisticated surrounds also play host to a weekly roster of events and Mamasan’s full restaurant menu is available in Bad Mama’s Dungeon with duck pancakes, sashimi, dumplings, and yaki grilled Moreton Bay bugs. Tuesday nights heat up with live jazz performances from local musicians, and on Sunday afternoons you can wind down with DJ Makoto's soul jazz Sunday recovery sessions in Mamasan's rooftop Sakura Bar.
