The interlinked rooms of the GPO building can either be a rat's nest of confusion or an intriguing chamber of secrets, depending on the crowds and how much you've had to drink. Half a dozen bars, several restaurants and a cheese and wine boutique compete for your attention in the huge, beautifully constructed former general post office building. There's an air of hard work and big spending surrounding the low squishy couchettes, soft lighting and smorgasbord of food options on the premises. The whole network feels designed to ensnare you in a world of late-night hedonism, with Crystal Bar the honey-trap at the centre of the business: all glitzy, low-slung chandeliers and hot pink wall features. The wine list is heavy with quaffable Sauv Blancs and tasty cocktails, including the toxic sounding-but-delicious Cadillac Margarita. They also do a mean martini, served any way you want it – vodka or gin, dirty or dry. Down the hallway, plastered cherubs loiter near the ceilings and the bathrooms are a hall-of-mirrors affair, with ample space for make-up to be reapplied and rear-ends to be assessed before going in for the kill.
