Is there a better way to toast Bastille Day than with a glass of Veuve Clicquot? We think not, and this month you can get a glass of the venerable widow’s famous bubbles (or a whole bottle – pourquoi pas?) at Quay Bar, which is transforming into a Champagne Bar for the duration of the BBR Festival, July 14-17.
Quay Bar’s location at the centre of the festival action in Circular Quay makes it the ideal place to sit and have a drink during the festival, which is a cornucopia of French culture and food: markets selling cheese, croissants, patisserie and craft; music and cabaret performances; even French movies at the outdoor cinema.
The tradition of drinking Champagne during celebrations dates back to the royal courts of Europe in the 18th century when the expensive drink was a luxury item for the upper classes.
So be sure to get down to the ground floor of Customs House, the Champagne garden of the festival, to get into the authentic Gallic spirit. Vive la France!
