We all know that the downside of going to a gig in this town means plastic wine glasses, limited beer choices, over-priced snacks and fairy-sized bottles of water. These inconveniences are negated by the awesome power of our love of live music, but what if there was somewhere nearby where you could get a drink you won’t grimace through and a bite to eat that is tasty and cheap? Cue heavy guitar riff… ooohh Bar Racuda! This Italian wine bar is directly opposite the Enmore Theatre, which makes it the perfect spot for a glass of Grant Burge shiraz and a four-dollar slice of tomato, mozzarella, basil and oregano pizza. And it’s a decent slice too, which makes it a good value bar snack in a town where you can expect to pay eight bucks for olives. A whole pizza is only a tenner so we say in for a penny, in for a pound – you’re going to need carbs to get you through the second encore anyway. Craft beers and wine will set you back nine dollars a pop here, and a bulk job of cocktails – a Racuda Shaker – gets you two to three serves of a Margarita or Mai Tai for $25. Give Redbull the flick and try a Vodka Espresso as a pre-or-post show pick-me-up, or for something a little more jazz than pop, the Zacapa Old Fashioned is a thing of olde-worlde beauty with 23-year-old rum, sweet Spanish sherry and bitters. Now that’s entertainment.
