It’s no secret that Sydney loves a speakeasy. The Harbour City is also pretty partial to an exciting new pop-up. So it’s about damn time these two pillars of Sydney’s social scene should come careening together. Down a laneway in the Rocks, an innocuous door marked only with the number ‘151’ belies a pop-up Roaring ‘20s-inspired bar, styled to a level of bootlegger chic that Gatsby himself would applaud. It'll be the place for those in the know to bend an elbow, Wed-Fri until the end of August.
Make your way past the velvet drapes and antique furniture until you find a friendly barkeep who’ll mix you up a crafted cocktail like a Gin Mikey or an Espresso Martini. Or else try one of the bar’s extensive supply of wines, Champagne, or premium whiskies – only the real deal here, not a drop of bathtub moonshine in the joint.
Visit between 4-6pm Wed-Fri and you’ll get even more bang for your buck during Bar 151’s happy hour, with pints of Young Henrys Beer and Cider for $5 and Margaritas for $10.
But this prohibition party is only here for a good time, not a long time. Bar 151 shuts up shop on August 31, so make sure you find it before it’s gone for good. But if anyone asks, you didn’t hear it from us…
