This artist-run space, housed in a former brick factory, was set up after the artists involved in Mekanarky Studios were forced out of their Turrella ice-cream factory digs in December 2007.
Named for an infamous pirate hide-out near Haiti, Tortuga Studios host film and TV production, exhibitions and events.
Their mission statement reads: We believe that even in the face of rampant development the inner city warehouse space has a place, providing space and opportunity for emergent and established artists to develop and grow, drawing inspiration from their environment.
