Time Out says

If you’ve been thinking about adding some artwork by First Nations artists to your collection, but you’re not sure where to get started, this upcoming art auction from Cooee Art MarketPlace is right up your alley.

Comprising 97 fine artworks from First Nations artists of renown and regions throughout Australia, this auction has artworks selected from over 20 national and international collections – including works on canvas, bark paintings, and sculptures, created since the 1950s.

The sale includes a large watercolour by Albert Namatjira, a range of early Arnhem Land bark paintings and sculptures, the largest work ever created by Balgo Hills artist Elizabeth Nyumi, a large painting by Peg Leg Tjampitjinpa, and Kimberley ochre works by a range of artists.

The sixth in a bi-annual series of Australian Indigenous Fine Art Auctions, Cooee Art MarketPlace is the only multi-vendor live auction of its kind. The artworks on sale amass a total value of $1 million, with individual works ranging in value from $500 to $80,000.

The collection is currently open for viewings at Cooee Art Gallery in Paddington between 10am and 4pm, and the auction will take place on Tuesday, June 23, from 7-9pm. For those who cannot make it down to the gallery or who would prefer to bid from home, the auction will be telecast live on Invaluable and bidding will be accepted by absentee, phone and online. Browse the collection here.
