This combined public gallery and art studio amid 1.4 hectares of landscaped gardens is situated 40 minutes from Sydney CBD in the suburb of Gymea. It opened in 2000 on land bequeathed by locals Ben and Hazel Broadhurst. With a competitive roster of exhibitions each year (including the Archibald Prize), and artist residencies, workshops, talks and masterclasses, it is the jewel of Southern Sydney's arts scene, with more than 200,000 visitors annually. The theatrette hosts a regular programme of special events including films, performances and lectures. The gallery shop offers a wide selection of gifts including ceramics, jewellery, glassware, textiles, toys, books, art supplies and more. The Hazelhurst Café, open seven days from 9am-4pm, is a popular meeting place for breakfast, lunch or a great coffee.
Hazelhurst is closed New Years Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
