Taoist demons, gothic angels and cyberpunk samurai take centre stage in 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art's latest exhibition, Dark Fantasy. Featuring the works of artists Gerald Leung and Louise Zhang, the exhibition examines the way in which the world of fantasy can be used to navigate identity. Inspired by the comic books and video games of his childhood, Hong Kong-born and Sydney-based artist Leung is the brain behind the illustration series Brutal Brackmetal, in which he creates members for his fictional gang, while Louise Zhang is a Chinese-Australian artist whose interest in horror cinema inspires her to explore the fine line between attraction and repulsion. Using the tropes of cyberpunk and body horror, both artists create fantastical scenes that focus on their feelings of otherness.
